Climate action

The Unidade Local de Saúde de Santo António, has as one of its strategic purposes, the cultural change for innovation and environmental sustainability in the area of climate action and circular economy. We are aware that, having our head office in the centre of Porto and being one of its largest employers, our environmental and social responsibility is even greater. The following actions implemented and to be implemented are proof of this significant investment:

• Investment in Telehealth, Digital Services, and Hospital-at-Home projects that prevent unnecessary trips by users to our units;
• Awareness of the Unidade Local de Saúde de Santo António community through the introduction of gamification in our Santo Antonio APP, namely metrics related to the reduction of CO2 emission with each digital interaction by users;
• Circular economy measures: reuse of Personal Protective Equipment, namely hospital gowns that, at the end of their useful life, are shredded, which results in waste that will be valued;
• Energy efficiency measures: photovoltaic system with over 2100 panels, replacement of the lighting fixtures by LED technology, replacement of chillers, rehabilitation of exterior roofs,… – reduction of 1650 TonCO2;
• Optimisation of the water system, reducing water consumption by 821 m3/year, and allowing for the reduction of about 190 TonCO2;
• Control, automatic dispensing, and reuse of uniforms and general clothing: reduction of 8470 TonCo2 and reduction of 26,400 m3/year of water
• Sustainable mobility measures: Reinforcement of the bicycle park, promoting and facilitating the use of this means of transport by our People, replacement of part of the fleet by electric vehicles, and placement of a charging station for electric vehicles.
