class=\"rich-text-block__RichTextBlockWrapper-sc-15nl68s-0 kTgUgH\"><p>10\/07\/2025<\/p><p><b>Last June, Porto welcomed Patrick Child, head of the European Commission&#8217;s &#8216;<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.porto.pt\/en\/news\/the-european-commission-selected-porto-to-take-part-in-the-mission-adaptation-to-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030<\/b><\/a><b>&#8216; initiative. The main purpose of the visit was to get a closer look at the work that Porto has been developing within the framework of the European Initiative and to strengthen dialogue with local authorities and\u00a0<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.porto.pt\/en\/news\/porto-climate-contract-foresees-eur-22-billion-investment-in-different-areas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>key ongoing projects<\/b><\/a><b>.<\/b><\/p><p>The visit included a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Porto, Filipe Ara\u00fajo, who is responsible for the Environment, Climate Transition and Innovation departments. During the meeting, an update was provided on the implementation of the Climate City Contract (CCC), signed by Porto in 2023, with a focus on the priority actions aimed at accelerating the city\u2019s carbon neutrality by 2030.<\/p><p>This was followed by a technical visit to emblematic projects of the municipal strategy, such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.porto.pt\/en\/news\/asprela-central-park-opens-to-the-city-with-another-six-hectares-of-green-space\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Asprela Central Park<\/b><\/a>\u00a0\u2013 an example of multifunctional green infrastructure and a nature-based solution for mitigating the effects of climate change \u2013 and also the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.porto.pt\/en\/news\/asprela-wants-to-be-a-multiplier-of-the-square-kilometre-of-knowledge-and-sustainability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Asprela Renewable Energy Community<\/b><\/a>, one of the pilot initiatives in the field of decentralised energy and the mobilisation of local stakeholders.<\/p><p>During the visit, Patrick Child highlighted Porto\u2019s leadership role among the European cities participating in the initiative and expressed particular interest in the city\u2019s involvement in complementary programmes, such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/netzerocities.eu\/pilot-cities-programme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Pilot Cities Programme<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/netzerocities.eu\/twinning-learning-programme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>Twinning and Learning Programme<\/b><\/a>, emphasising Porto\u2019s commitment to collaborative innovation, citizen participation, and urban sustainability.<\/p><p>The visit reinforced the mutual trust between Porto and the European Commission, at a crucial stage for the implementation of the commitments undertaken under the initiative.
