Scientists, governors, and citizens gather in Porto for Cidade Azul

Porto will address the environmental challenges that big population agglomerations face. Scientists, governors of cities dedicated to ensuring the future and of their citizens gather, this Friday, May 12th, at Super Bock Arena – Pavilhão Rosa Mota for the Cidade Azul conference. The event, co-organised by the newspaper Público and the Municipality of Porto, promotes a tour in the city and many workshops.

Besides welcoming the participants, introducing a day that will be lived under the motto “As cidades costeiras e a crise climática: da ameaça à urgência na adaptação”, the president of the Porto City Hall, Rui Moreira, will participate in the debate about sustainability politics, with the mayor of Niterói, Axel Schmidt, and the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero.

Among the invited guests, the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, British director at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Louisa Hooper, director at Tyndal Center and Professor of Climate Adaptation at the University of East Anglia, in the United Kingdom, Robert Nicholls, Biopolis’ European project’s coordinator, Nuno Ferrand, and Helena Monteiro, from Global Focal Point, The City Climate Gap Fund, Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.

Promoted to measure, evaluate solutions, find questions and answers, in orrderto make better decisions, the conference Cidade Azul, will be granted with the presence of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in the closing session of the debates.

Tour and workshops on Thursday, the 11th

The day before that, Thursday, will be dedicated for a tour of the city, stopping at Parque Central da Asprela, in the compost island in Paranhos and at Águas e Energia do Porto, and to the promotion of various workshops in themes such as circular economy, plastic, mobility, fashion, animals or food waste.
