LIPOR – Association of Municipalities for the Sustainable Waste Management of Greater Porto was founded in 1982 as an Association of Municipalities and is responsible for managing, recovering, and treating urban waste produced by the eight municipalities that comprise it.
In response to the challenges of this decade and LIPOR’s strategic goal of diversifying activities and businesses, we have developed an evolution framework for 2021-2030.
This evolution will be based on four key principles:
- Less Waste, by promoting efficient resource management and prioritizing a circular business model.
- Less Carbon, by leveraging the Carbon-Energy relationship, aiming for decarbonization and energy transition.
- More Climate, by reinforcing our commitment to climate change adaptation.
- More Biodiversity, by enhancing the promotion of biodiversity within our field of activity.
With the 4M Strategy, we have set a new target and aim to achieve a 35% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030.
Climate action
Lipor advocates a 4-axis framework for progress by 2030:
- Less Waste, favouring a circular Business model;
- Less Carbon, converging towards decarbonization and energy transition;
- More Climate, enhancing the commitment to adaptation to climate change;
- More Biodiversity, increasing the promotion of biodiversity.
These are the foundations of the new LIPOR 4M Strategy – less Waste, less Carbon, more Climate, more Biodiversity to achieve a 30% reduction in GHG emissions by the year 2030.
Testimony
LIPOR and its Municipalities believe that knowledge, mobilization and cooperation are essential to achieving carbon neutrality. In our area of activity, by giving new life to waste, we are also contributing to this new vision of the future, with a view to fulfilling a common cause.
