BA GLASS

Climate action

For BA, sustainability begins in our product, glass, which is produced from natural raw materials; it is a long-lasting, inert, and reusable material, and therefore sustainable. Glass packaging does not lose its intrinsic properties, even if recycled time and time again, and so it ensures the safe conservation of food and beverages and preserves the health of consumers. Glass does not change when recycled, and food characteristics such as taste, nutrients, colour, and odour are preserved.

The company’s commitment to a sustainable policy for environmental preservation is reflected in initiatives such as the signing of The Porto Protocol, the commitment to Science-Based Targets (SBTi), and to the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).

The ambition to make BA a company with a zero footprint requires a technological disruption in the production process of glass packaging, so we have been investing in the development of new processes and/or technologies, specifically the installation of photovoltaic parks in the Villafranca de los Barros, Avintes, and Plovdiv manufacturing plants.

As a result of these initiatives and several internal actions that we have been developing, BA Glass received, for the third year in a row, the award for “The Most Sustainable Company in the Glass Industry”, by World Finance Magazine.

2022 was proclaimed by the United Nations as the International Year of Glass, a year in which we celebrate the importance of glass in our lives. By choosing glass packaging, we are protecting the health of individuals and society, as well as that of the planet.

The path we have been building towards sustainability makes us believe, as a company, that we are creating a new future; one full of opportunities for new generations, never disregarding our commitment to the sustainability of the planet.

Testimony

By joining the Porto Climate Pact, we are taking another important step on the path to sustainability. We believe that we can create a better future for the next generations and contribute to the adoption of collective measures that will drive new sustainable behaviours.
