ANA Aeroportos
Manager of 10 airports in Portugal and with solid expertise in airport infrastructures, ANA is recognised for its public service, strong commitment to sustainability, and continuous focus on service quality.
Since 2013, ANA has been part of VINCI Airports, combining its experience with an innovative vision, contributing to the economic development of the regions where it operates.
Climate Action
ANA has set highly ambitious decarbonisation targets:
- Achieve net zero carbon neutrality by 2030 for its scope 1 and 2 emissions;
- Have its airports accredited at Level 5 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme by the Airport Council International – meaning that, in addition to having achieved net zero emissions for scopes 1 and 2 in the year of accreditation, the airports are also committed to reaching net zero for scope 3 emissions by 2050, in alignment with net zero principles, where technically feasible.
To meet this decarbonisation strategy, ANA and Porto Airport have designed (and are currently implementing) an Action Plan, which includes a range of initiatives such as:
- 100% LED lighting (in buildings and movement areas);
- Replacement of natural gas boilers used to heat the passenger terminal with heat pumps;
- Introduction of a Building Management System to optimise building efficiency;
- Upgrading HVAC systems;
- Optimising heating and cooling temperatures;
- Electrification of the vehicle fleet, along with an increasing number of electric charging stations for vehicles and equipment (for ANA and stakeholders);
- Installation of photovoltaic systems for self-consumption;
- Ensuring that all purchased electricity from the grid comes from renewable sources, backed by Guarantees of Origin;
- Increasing the number of aircraft parking stands with power and climate control supply.
Some of these measures contribute not only to ANA’s scope 1 and 2 emissions but also to scope 3. In this area specifically, ANA launched a Stakeholder Partnership Project in 2021, which led to the creation of several working groups organised by theme (aviation, ground handling, energy, and mobility). The main objective is to work collaboratively to reduce the carbon footprint of ANA Airports (and, consequently, support the reduction of partners’ scope 1 and 2 emissions).
Testimony
“The path to decarbonisation requires partnerships, which are crucial to achieving greater global impact. By joining the Porto Climate Pact, ANA reaffirms its strategic role in the sustainable development of the region, aligning airport operations with the city’s goals for carbon neutrality and energy transition.”
