Pousada do Porto - Rua das Flores

With a track record of five decades of success, the PESTANA HOTEL GROUP is the largest multinational group of Portuguese origin in the Tourism sector.
Present across Europe, the Americas, and Africa, it manages more than 100 hotels and 12,000 rooms directly, being chosen by over 3.5 million guests per year. In hospitality, its core business, the Group operates under four brands: Pestana Hotels & Resorts, Pestana Collection Hotels, Pestana Pousadas de Portugal, and Pestana CR7 Lifestyle Hotels. To offer comprehensive and attractive products, the Group is also active in several business areas: hospitality, tourist real estate, vacation tourism, golf, casinos, and industry.

Over the years, much has changed, but the formula has remained the same: family values, entrepreneurship, resilience, hard work, innovation, and sustainability. With the help of our wonderful multinational teams, we strive to honor the legacy left by our founder and to prepare the next generation for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Our mission is to keep working to offer you The Time of Your Life.

Climate Action

We only have one Planet, and it is our duty to reduce our footprint as much as possible. The Pestana Hotel Group acts across several environmental dimensions:

Energy and Climate:
We aim to reduce energy consumption and produce energy from alternative sources (solar, biomass, and heat pumps). We monitor and analyze consumption, update systems and equipment to enhance energy efficiency, and have made investments in various properties, including the Madeira Beer Company. A major reforestation effort was also undertaken at Herdade da Pereira, an agricultural estate owned by the Group that had been severely affected by a wildfire. Recently, 50,000 native trees—adapted to the terrain and climate—were planted there. In celebration of the Group’s 50th anniversary, 50 trees/shrubs were also planted in 50 of our locations.

Water Resources:
Water is one of the planet’s most vital resources and is essential to the functioning of our units—needed for guest rooms, kitchens, cleaning, irrigation, and pools. Given its growing scarcity, efficient management is crucial.

We monitor water consumption through daily logs, allowing us to manage it more effectively and to quickly address any anomalies.

Waste Management and Circular Economy:
Our guiding principle is to reduce waste and promote recycling and reuse of materials, while also lowering operational costs.

“SAY NO TO PLASTIC”
In 2019, the Pestana Hotel Group implemented a series of measures aimed at reducing plastic use, which have remained in force ever since.

Biodiversity:
In Portugal, the Pousada de Sagres is located within a protected area. Our hotels in Mozambique and South Africa occupy 6,500 m² and 50,000 m² of protected land, respectively. The Pestana Tróia Eco Resort is situated in an Ecological Reserve zone, where construction covers only 5% of the land. The remaining 95% is comprised of ecological reserve (50%) and protected green space (45%). Additionally, the Pousada da Caniçada-Gerês is located near Portugal’s only National Park: Peneda-Gerês.

Heritage:
We continue to invest in the restoration and use of heritage buildings for tourism and hospitality purposes. This approach prevents degradation and preserves the architectural identity of historic structures, giving them new life and a sustainable future.

Testimony

The implementation of our specific program—Pestana Planet Guest—has made us more responsible and, above all, more aware of our role. Launched in 2019, the program has evolved over the years. After a decade, we conducted a strategic review that led to a restructuring into six areas of action: Relationship and Support to Local Communities, Internal Social Responsibility, Education and Culture, Support for Entrepreneurship, Environmental Stewardship, and Heritage Recovery and Preservation.

Today, Pestana Planet Guest is an integral part of our ESG strategy and aligned with the principles of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all United Nations Member States. More than a journey, implementing sustainable practices in our daily operations is a mindset—one we embrace as part of our business and, above all, as the path forward for those who, like us, consider themselves mere Guests of the Planet.
