Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis

The Soares dos Reis National Museum (MNSR), located in the Carrancas Palace, originated as the Museum of Paintings, Prints, and Other Fine Arts Objects, founded in 1833 by King Pedro IV. It holds eleven collections and more than 18,000 cultural assets. Awarded Museum of the Year in 2024, it is the only National Museum in Northern Portugal.

Climate Action

MNSR has been implementing a range of climate action measures, including interventions in the historic building it occupies, the adoption of sustainable practices in resource management, and cultural and educational programming aimed at raising awareness and fostering dialogue on climate change. There is also a strong focus on protecting cultural heritage from climate risks through mapping, monitoring, and the application of effective preventive measures.

Testimonial

MNSR has been repositioning itself around the urgency of climate action, integrating this issue into its exhibitions, programming, and cultural and educational activities, while encouraging debate on the role of the cultural sector in times of environmental change. We hope to make a meaningful contribution to the goals and actions defined within the Porto Climate Pact by adopting sustainable and climate-protective practices.
