U.Porto – Faculdade de Arquitectura

The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), also known as the “Porto School”, is a center for the creation, transmission, and dissemination of disciplinary knowledge in the fields of architecture, construction, and urbanism. It is recognized worldwide as a leading institution in architectural education and is one of the few schools in the world whose former students and professors include two Pritzker Prize winners: architects Álvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura.

Climate action

As part of its climate action efforts, FAUP has implemented several operational, curricular, and scientific measures, including:

— Optimization of energy consumption in FAUP buildings through lighting system upgrades, rationalized heating system programming, among other initiatives.
— Creation of curricular units dedicated to topics related to Circular Economy and Sustainability, such as “Circular Construction, Certification, and Conscious Design” or “Architecture and Society”, along with redirection of existing curricular programs, including Urbanism 2 (Challenges of 21st Century Urban Conditions) and Project 5.
— Promotion and coordination of the trans-European initiative NEB Goes South, recognized as an NEB Lab of the New European Bauhaus.

Testimony

By signing the Porto Climate Pact, FAUP assumes responsibility for educating and training future architects in favor of a sustainable built and natural environment, with a particular focus on the enhancement of urban spaces and the built heritage of our city.
